Playa de las Teresitas: A Stunning Beach You Must Visit
I’ve been to a few dozen beaches in Tenerife, and Las Teresitas is one of my favourite ones. I fell in love with it the first time I saw it in a picture. Las Teresitas is even more beautiful in reality than on the photos, especially from the observation deck. The view from the mountain near the beach is breathtaking.
I am excited to share with you an all-inclusive overview of the benefits and drawbacks of this stunning beach. Additionally, you will find useful information on the beach facilities available and some practical tips that will surely come in handy during your visit.
Why Playa de las Teresitas is Special?
Las Teresitas Beach has a unique quality that sets it apart from other beaches. It is not hard to see why visitors are drawn to this location and consider it one of the best beaches in Tenerife.
The atmosphere is tranquil, the sand is soft and warm, and the water is crystal clear. There is something special about this beach that simply cannot be replicated anywhere else. Whether you are looking to relax or have some fun in the sun, Las Teresitas beach is the perfect destination for you.
Most of the natural beaches in Tenerife are black volcanic sand beaches, they are the highlight of Tenerife. But they have a slight disadvantage – the black sand, which is actually made up of small lava grains, heats up very quickly. Also, I personally get tired of the dark colour of the sand after a long stay on the beach. I prefer the beaches with golden sand, like the beach of Las Teresitas.
The beach’s sand is truly remarkable. It boasts a velvety texture and a beauty that’s hard to match. Interestingly, it was transported all the way from the Sahara desert.
Las Teresitas is one of the most beautiful places in Tenerife, and you can often see it on postcards. However, the beach is more popular among residents of the capital Santa Cruz than tourists. Most tourists spend their holidays in the south of the island and only come to see Las Teresitas beach as part of a day trip around the island.
I highly recommend paying a visit to this particular beach in Tenerife. It’s definitely worth it. If time allows you, I recommend spending a few days on Las Teresitas Beach.
Where is Playa de las Teresitas?
The beach Playa de las Teresitas is located in the northeast of Tenerife, about 7km from the island’s capital Santa Cruz de Tenerife. On the west, you can find San Andrés village, located at the foot of the high rock. To the south, the beach is surrounded by the Anaga mountains.
If you plan to visit the island’s north, include Las Teresitas in your itinerary.
How to get to Playa de las Teresitas?
The easiest way to get to the beach is by hire car. I have written about how to rent a car in Tenerife here.
There is a large free car park near the beach. I never had a problem finding a free space to park my car.
If you don’t drive, you can get to the beach by city bus number 910 from Santa Cruz de Tenerife bus station. The bus runs every 8-10 minutes and takes 20 minutes to get to the final stop near Las Teresitas.
The return journey back to the town is the same. The journey on the Titsa card will cost you 0.75 euros. From other parts of the island you can also reach the beach from the capital Santa Cruz.

Why should you visit Las Teresitas Beach?
1 – The first advantage of Las Teresitas Beach is its beauty. Honestly. Once here, you will first take a long time to look around and admire it.
2 – The second advantage of the beach is its sand. You will spend a wonderful time on the golden and soft sand of Las Teresitas. This beach used to have black volcanic sand, but in the late 60’s sand from Africa was exported to the beach. The sand was transported from the Sahara Desert to the Canary Islands by barge. Now everyone can enjoy not only the view of African sand, but also its softness.
3 – The third perk of Teresitas is its water area. The entrance to the ocean is very pleasant, as the bottom is also covered with sand from the Sahara, so you won’t hurt your feet on volcanic rocks or trip over them as you would on other beaches in Tenerife.
The entrance is quite shallow, and parents with children will appreciate this. Kids can safely splash around near the shore without fear of being swept by the waves, because the beach is protected from the ocean by a long stone breakwater.
Swimming here is very comfortable, almost like swimming in a lake or swimming pool.
4 – The fourth advantage of Las Teresitas Beach is its close proximity to the Anaga National Park. Las Teresitas Beach is surrounded on three sides by the Anaga Mountains. Only the Anaga Mountains preserve unique laurel and coniferous forests that you won’t see anywhere else on Earth.
The park has dozens of ready-made trails that you can follow in awe of the stunning beauty that opens up to you around every corner.
You can admire the vibrant greenery of the cliffs from Las Teresitas Beach. When planning a trip to the north of Tenerife, I highly recommend a visit to the Anaga Park. It is a really beautiful place on the island.
5 – All holidaymakers will appreciate the infrastructure of the beach. There are showers and toilets, foot showers, sunbeds and sun loungers for rent, boat and catamaran hire. Las Teresitas is surrounded by palm trees on the land side and on the beach itself. There are cafes along the beach where you can enjoy a refreshing drink and snack.
If you fancy a more refined menu, you can walk to the nearby village of San Andres where there are some good fish restaurants.
6 – Las Teresitas beach is an ideal setting for Stand Up Paddle adventures. Stand Up Paddle (SUP) offers a multitude of benefits that make it a popular and enjoyable activity. SUP engages various muscle groups, including your core, legs, arms, and back. The act of balancing on the board while paddling provides an effective full-body workout. Stand Up Paddle allows you to immerse yourself in nature and appreciate the serene beauty of your surroundings.
The rhythmic motion of paddling combined with the soothing sound of water has a calming effect, promoting relaxation and reducing stress. 7 – And of course, I can’t leave out the size of the beach. Las Teresitas boasts a coastline of 1.3 kilometres, so there is a place under the sun for every traveller. Even on weekends, when most of the island’s capital Santa Cruz comes here, you can still find a comfortable place to relax.
8 – Another highlight of Las Teresitas is the view from above. You can admire the beach from the Las Teresitas viewpoint. It is only accessible from the Igeste de San Andrés motorway. The Las Teresitas observation deck gives you one of the most beautiful views of Tenerife.
